This Year's Model Updates:

After undergoing a full redesign last year, Chevrolet's heavy-duty three-quarter-ton truck gets few changes for 2002. Air conditioning is now standard on all trim levels along with extendable sunshade visors and improved base model radios.

Pros:
  • Class-leading engines and hauling capacity, roomy interior, superior brakes.
Cons:
  • Spotty build quality, cheap interior materials.

The 2002 Chevrolet HD 2500 is pure pleaseure to drive! I love the raw power it delivers from the 6.0 engine. The interior is roomy, and the layout of the gauges and radio/ CD player is very functional. The interior does not have a inexpensive look as some reviewers state. The paint is very nice, with no orangepeel as with some vehicles. I really like the body style with the raised lines in the hood of the HDs, and the honeycomb grill. The trucks stance is also a plus, riding high above the rest of the traffic on attractive polished aluminum wheels. I have no criticism for the Chevrolet line of trucks.

This is the real deal when it comes to working trucks. It can haul serious heavy loads as well as run like the wind. It does all of this in a Cadillac comfort zone. Keep up the pace Chevy, thell never catch you..

  • Duramaxd Diesel with the full Banks Kit - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

This truck is plenty powerful on its own with the Duramax Diesel. Tons of torque, a great ride and built tougher than any other truck out there. Lots of room inside. I had the full Banks system added over time (chip, exhaust, Six-Gun and Speed Loader) and this truck is faster, stronger and better than I could have imagined. I get a combined 18MPG and I put the miles on this beast in all the worst driving conditions. My acceleration is amazing. You CANNOT go wrong with the Duramax diesel and the Alison transmission. It will stand up to anything you throw at it.

My Wife & I really like our new Silverado. The 6.6 liter Duramax Diesel with the Allison 5 speed automatic transmission is the perfect combination towing our 28 ft. trailer. Our trailer is concidered a liteweight at around 5,500 lbs. Our truck is capable of towing almost 12,000 . We have already towed our trailer a couple times and experienced no sway from Semi-trucks passing us up! That was a major problem we had with our smaller Astro minivan. As far as gas mileage goes- we got around 16 mpg towing (mostly highway driving). I tend to average about 55 mph on the highway. Driving solo- we get around 20 mpg combination highway & city driving.

  • Extra dependable engine, poor transmission - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Our company bought this truck new. I just parked it last week with 242,683 miles on it. We purchased a 2005 with low miles, speced just my 2002. The 02 has a utility bed with welder, torch set up, worlds of tools. Full of gas, gross weight is 9,650lbs. This 6.0 gas engine has to be one of the best in the world. Ive checked every tank of gas for 6 1/2 years, averaged 13.225, great to be so overloaded. The 410 ratio did a good job for us. The automatic trans. just didnt have the guts for the torque and weight. When I parked it last week, overdrive was out again...trans # four, poor quality trans. Overall, an excellent truck if it had the Allison trans.

This is truly a go anywhere, do anything pickup. 4WD with locking differential and capabale of towing 15,600 lbs. A fantastic truck. I pull a 5th wheel RV with this truck all the time with no problems.

  • Kens truck - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Very tough truck in extremely tough conditions (Snow, Ice, Mud) and still with smooth ride. With longer wheelbase this truck is well balanced and apparently has good insulation because its very, very quite also. Added canopy, dual fans, dual exaust (flow master), converted to synthetic oil at 36K and sprayed bed with LineX. Now at 18MPG on HWY, 12-13 in town. Want to trade up to a Durmax but hard to give this unit up.
